Chain-store sales rose 0.6 percent in the Sept. 5 week to an above-trend minus 0.1 percent year-on-year rate, according to ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales tally. The report said cold weather and a late school start in some areas boosted overall sales. Redbook is up at 8:55 ET.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
