Highlights
Post Christmas shopping was solid according to ICSC-UBS's same-store index that rose 1.4 percent in the Jan. 3 week for a year-on-year rate of -0.8 percent, a weak year-on-year rate of course but up from -1.8 percent in the prior week. The report said the results "lend comfort" to the overall sales outlook for December, which however it still expects to fall by 1% compared to November.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.  Why Investors Care
